At the Fantastic General Store, we have a reoccurring task of taking products back to where they belong. If a customer decides they don’t want to buy something, sometimes they just leave it in whatever section they made that decision in, regardless of whether that particular item belongs there or not. A child’s toy somehow finds its way to the ballgowns section. We have to put the toy back. Found facial wash in the toy department while returning said toy? Now that facial wash has to be taken back to the health and beauty section. A flower pot winds up in the weapons department? We have to take it back to the gardening section. Speaking of the garden department, this is the section of the store that gets the most oddball items of all. I’m not sure if it’s because that department isn’t checked as much as the rest of the store, or if people are planning to shoplift, but then realize there is no good way to walk off with merchandise in that department. Regardless, the garden department seems to be a vortex for odd products. A peg of gift cards? Seen it. I suspect a little kid grabbed the peg and then left it in the garden department, when the parents said the child couldn’t have the gift cards. A bottle of orange juice still cold from the cellar? Seen that too, just sitting in a cart out in the garden department on a warm afternoon. Maybe the customer just didn’t want orange juice anymore. But probably the product that took the cake for me was finding underwear out in the garden department. Just why? Why was underwear taken there, and why was it left there? What does underwear have to do with raking leaves and planting flowers?
