At the Fantastic General Store, we have slow periods of business as well as busy periods. People usually need a couple of days of sleep after a ball. Sometimes slow periods are welcome, since they give employees time to get caught up on other tasks, like restocking and cleaning. But you can only clean and stock for so long before you run out of things to do. Unless the store gets a run on glass slippers, they only sell so fast. Then you either search in vain for more to do, or you pretend to be busy when you’re not. You don’t want to use your leave, since you only earn so much at a time, and you don’t want your pay cut, since it’s not your fault the store is slow. I think in this instance, management needs to have a list of tasks to do when we have slow periods, so employees aren’t milling around wondering what to do. I would recommend training, especially cross training, since then employees have time to learn how to do other jobs well, and can then use that knowledge to move up in the company.
